On Wednesday morning, Géssica, aged 36, was rescued by firefighters from the Copacabana barracks, but she arrived dead at the Miguel Couto municipal hospital, in Gávea. The case was taken over by the Capital Homicide Station (DHC). During the night, agents of the 5th DP (Mem de Sá), who are supporting the investigation, arrested the man near the Novo Rio bus station, in the port area, in what could have been an escape attempt.
According to the civil police, the arrest took place on the basis of statements from the victim’s relatives; in the hospital unit report, which initially reported a death by strangulation; and in the alleged escape attempt, which indicated that the individual was responsible for the death, in a suspected case of femicide.
