MADRID, December 28 (EUROPA PRESS) –
A man was arrested this Sunday in northern Suriname after killing nine people, including five children, during a family fight at his home on the outskirts of the country’s capital.
The incident began overnight from Saturday to Sunday in the municipality of Commewijne, just east of the capital Paramaribo.
The attacker was identified by police sources as a 43-year-old man who, after a telephone argument with his estranged wife, stabbed to death four of his children, aged between five and 15. Her eldest daughter, aged 16, managed to escape, seriously injured, to ask neighbors for help.
The individual then went door to door in the community of Richelieu, stabbing neighboring families, five of whom, including another child, ended up dying, as the police of this South American country confirmed in a statement published on its website.
Eastern Region Police, who responded to the scene, had to use firearms to arrest the suspect, who was shot in the leg and is currently being treated in police custody.
