The man who killed Rhianna Alves, an 18-year-old trans woman, was arrested preventively this Wednesday (12/10), following a court decision. The crime occurred last Saturday (12/06) in Luís Eduardo Magalhães, western Bahia, and the perpetrator even took the victim’s body to the police station and confessed to the crime, but was eventually released.
The driver of the app, 19-year-old Sérgio Henrique Lima dos Santos, was charged with femicide. Once the police investigation was completed, the Bahia Public Prosecutor’s Office (MPBA) transmitted the complaint to the judiciary and requested preventive detention. The perpetrator was arrested in Serrinha, more than 700 km from the crime scene.
In his testimony, Sérgio Henrique said he paid for a “sexual encounter” with Rhianna. While taking her home, the two men argued and, according to the author, the victim threatened to report him for rape.
At one point, Rhianna attempted to open the bag she was carrying, but was restrained by Sérgio Henrique, who applied a rear-naked choke and asphyxiated the victim.
Realizing that the woman was not moving, Sérgio Henrique took the body to the Territorial Police Station (DT) of Luís Eduardo Magalhães. The ambulance provided treatment, but Rhianna was already dead.
Sérgio gave a statement and said he acted in self-defense because he feared the woman would pull a gun out of her bag. According to a note from the Bahia Civil Police, the driver was released to respond freely “because he presented himself spontaneously and confessed to the crime.”
Although the attacker claims to have paid for a program with Rhianna, there is no confirmation that the young woman worked in prostitution. On social media, she presented herself as an influencer and posted videos about gender transition.
“I know it’s not easy being a trans girl, but it was the best decision to live my life,” the young woman wrote in a post.

If this has repercussions on social networks
The murder of Rhianna Alves had repercussions on social networks, mainly because the perpetrator was released even after delivering the victim’s body to the police station.

Judge orders SP to compensate trans woman for treating her in a masculine way
Federal MP Erika Hilton (PSol-SP) commented on the case and indicated that she had filed a complaint with the MP-BA against the perpetrator of the crime and the delegate responsible for his release.
“It is inconceivable that a police chief would not arrest a KILLER in the act who took a BODY to the station because he was “nice”, confessed to the crime and swore with his finger that he would behave,” the deputy wrote on social media.
The MP argued the perpetrator should not have been released and said the arrest for the offense was not ordered because the victim was a trans woman. “Confessions do not remove egregious crimes, murder is murder and, in our law, no human life is worth more than another. And a person capable of killing should not be released instantly,” he said.
“The killer confessed and spoke about his motive: he had engaged her in a program and was afraid that the affair would be revealed. For the killer, it was ‘self-defense’. And for the police chief, this was enough to free him. Is this a case of institutionalized transphobia or not?” added the MP.
The Secretariat of Justice and Human Rights of Bahia (SJDH) published a note on the case and informed that it would demand speed in the investigations.
Through social networks, Drycka Santana, 20 years old, Rhianna’s sister, spoke about the young woman’s death. “They didn’t take the life of a simple person, they took the life of a human being full of light; everyone who knew her knew the love and care she had for everyone around her,” he explained.
