MADRID, December 17 (EUROPA PRESS) –
Australian authorities announced on Wednesday that the 24-year-old man who attacked a Sydney beach last Sunday with his now deceased father has been charged with 59 crimes, including 15 murders.
The man faces charges of committing a “terrorist act”, 15 counts of murder and 40 of wounding or “seriously wounding a person with intent to kill”, according to New South Wales Police in a statement.
Additionally, he is accused of “firing a firearm with intent to cause serious bodily injury, placing explosives in or near a building with intent to cause damage, and causing the public display of symbols of banned terrorist organizations,” following the seizure of Islamic State flags from a vehicle registered in his name.
Agents from the anti-terrorist team of the said police went to the hospital where the attacker, who had emerged from a coma the day before, was admitted. According to the agency, this man from Bonnyrigg, a suburb of Sydney, will appear online this Wednesday.
“Police will allege in court that the man engaged in conduct causing death, serious injury and endangering life to promote a religious cause and sow fear in the community,” he added in the memo.
In addition to the 15 dead, 20 other people remain in hospital after a father and son carried out a mass shooting last Sunday at Bondi Beach in Sydney while celebrating the Jewish holiday of Hanukkah.
