It took a day for the President of the Community of Madrid to take seriously the scandal of the Torrejón hospital managed by the Ribera Salud group. Isabel Díaz Ayuso has already activated the “I have white hair” mode, which consists of diverting attention from any error or scam that affects the power located at Puerta del Sol. To take what happened seriously would be to admit that his model of privatizing health care and shifting public money to private companies is a scam for the citizens of Madrid, who are already breaking national records for purchasing private medical insurance. How are they going to take this seriously if one of the regional government’s pillars of action is to end health care while ensuring that the region has the best hospitals in Spain. It would not be strange if Ribera Salud ended up receiving an award for business excellence from the national icon of freedom, from this woman persecuted by the powers of the state, who, according to Mayor Almeida, is the president who emerges triumphant from any battle, no matter how dirty.
As this moment arrives, Ayuso assures that the audios of the CEO of the health group “are taken out of context” and are “private conversations” which reflect “quarrels between managers”. I imagine a former minister and his former advisor applauding from their cell in Soto del Real, taking notes for their future defense or writing a tweet on behalf of Ábalos. Audio is just audio and context is context. If we were in Valencia, Ayuso would have said: “calm down, everything is fine”. Ayuso is traditional and prefers to repeat her favorite word, “freedom”, which finds the meaning it always had in Ayuso’s mouth: freedom so that others pay for your party and, if possible, the penthouse. Freedom so that some are not affected by privileges or financial results. Freedom to choose the hospital where they will put you on the waiting list until your body can handle it.
