This is the first time Boxing Day has been empty. The league’s decision to break with a centuries-old tradition occurs for three main reasons: an extended schedule, the fragmentation of television channels and the logistics related to public transportation.
Home team, Manchester United arrives at the duel with 7th place in hand, with 26 points. A victory could bring the Red Devils closer to a place in the group which accesses European competitions.
Newcastle’s situation is somewhat similar. The Magpies sit in 11th place, with 23 points, and need to score if they are to enter the fight, alongside United, for the Conference, Europa League or Champions.
Where to watch:
The duel between Manchester United and Newcastle, in the round of 16 of the Premier League, will be broadcast on closed television (ESPN) and in streaming (Disney+).
