María Corina Machado appeared in Oslo, Norway, from the balcony of the Grand Hotel, home of the annual Nobel Prize ceremony, where she greeted hundreds of Venezuelans who had gathered to show their support.
The opposition leader, who had been in hiding for more than a year, sent a message on social networks: “Oslo, here I am.” Although he was unable to attend the 2025 Nobel Peace Prize ceremony, received by his daughter Ana Corina Sosa, his appearance had strong symbolism and renewed his leadership in the fight for democracy in Venezuela.

The reappearance of María Corina Machado in Oslo did not go unnoticed in Colombia. Several political sectors expressed their support, especially after the Venezuelan leader sang the national anthem alongside those waiting for her, an act that moved many; At the end, those present outside the hotel shouted “freedom, freedom, freedom.”

Given this political situation, the heads of state and government did not take long to react to Machado’s act. One of the first was Bogotá city councilor Daniel Briceño, who wrote on social networks: “María Corina Machado is brave. Nicolás Maduro is a drug trafficker and dictator. Petro is an accomplice and coward.”
With this message, the lawyer, who now heads the list in the Bogotá House of Representatives for the Democratic Center, not only underlined the courage of the Venezuelan opponent, but also criticized Colombian President Gustavo Petro for his proximity to the Maduro regime.

Andrés Forero, representative of the Democratic Center in the chamber, also expressed his support for Machado and did not shy away from harshly criticizing the Colombian president, expressing his disapproval of his actions and in some ways, albeit subtly, comparing him to the Venezuelan leader.
On his X account he wrote: “How great @MariaCorinaYA is, a symbol of freedom! @petrogustavo decided to put himself on the wrong side of history by supporting de facto Maduro’s dictatorship (sic).” For the congressman, Petro’s support for Maduro is a historic mistake that must be highlighted, as well as the entire opposition.

The Democratic Center, the party founded by former President Álvaro Uribe, also shared its support with a short message on social networks: “Strength @MariaCorinaYA. Freedom for the brave people (sic).”

What surprised and moved many Colombians was the presence of former Vice President Marta Lucía Ramírez in front of the hotel in Oslo, who shared a photo with Machado on his social networks.
Along with this photo, Iván Duque’s previous formula was: “What a great emotion to see her, to hug her, to know that she is safe, to know that she is with her loved ones and steadfast, as always in the defense of democratic values and integrity.”

For his part, two-time former mayor of Bogotá Enrique Peñalosa congratulated Machado and emphasized the importance of the Nobel Peace Prize for the democratic cause.
In a video posted on his “We need a democratic Venezuela to move towards a better future together.”.
Peñalosa stressed that democracy in Venezuela would also benefit Colombia, especially in terms of security.
In this sense, Claudia López, former mayor of Bogotá and presidential candidate, also expressed her admiration for Ana Corina Sosa’s speech at the Nobel Prize ceremony.
Lopez wrote: “How proud to see your daughter making this speech on your behalf, dear María Corina. Your worthy daughter.”. Love and admiration for you and your family. Honor and solidarity to the brave people of Venezuela.”
