“Nobel Peace Prize laureate María Corina Machado did everything in her power to attend today’s ceremony. A trip in a situation of extreme danger. Although she was unable to make it to today’s ceremony and events, We are very happy to confirm that you are safe and will be with us in Oslo“, the organization said in a statement.
The Nobel Institute in Oslo also published a recording of a telephone conversation between Machado and the president of the Norwegian Nobel Committee, Jorgen Watne Frydnes, during which the opponent praises the role of people who “risked their lives” so that she could leave Venezuela and go to Norway. “This is an example of what this recognition means for the Venezuelan people.” he said.

“I know that hundreds of Venezuelans from different parts of the world have been able to reach the city and are now in Oslo, as are my family, my team and many colleagues. Since this is an award for all Venezuelans, I think they will receive it.. As soon as I arrive, I will be able to hug all my family and my children, whom I have not seen for two years,” he emphasizes.
