“All I Want For Christmas Is You” reaches its 20th week at the top of the Billboard charts and cements Mariah as an absolute Christmas phenomenon
Mariah Carey has once again written her name in pop music history. The Billboard Hot 100, the main singles chart in the United States, was updated this Monday (15) and confirmed an unprecedented feat: “All I Want For Christmas Is You” reached the 20th week at #1setting a new all-time record for staying at the top of the list.
Until then, Mariah shared historic leadership with rapper Shaboozey, who spent 19 non-consecutive weeks at number one with the hit “A Bar Song (Tipsy).” Now, the singer is taking on this role on her own and further expanding her legacy within the music industry.
Commenting on the new record in an interview with North American Billboard, Mariah Carey reacted with surprise, emotion and good humor. “Yaaaay! It’s amazing, honestly. I really can’t lie…” the artist said, visibly excited while talking about the feat.
The singer also recalled, in a relaxed tone, times when she saw other artists surpass historic milestones. “I was upset at the time, but what was I going to do?” Mariah joked, mentioning that names like Shaboozey and Lil Nas
This comment reinforces one of the artist’s hallmarks: her ability to laugh at herself while building one of the strongest catalogs in pop history.
Although “All I Want For Christmas Is You” is the biggest symbol of this success, Mariah Carey has already appeared several times on the list of songs that spent the most weeks at the top of the Billboard Hot 100. Highlights include:
-
“A sweet day”partnership with Boyz II Men, remained 16 weeks in 1st place
-
“We belong together”one of the biggest successes of the 2000s, with 14 weeks at the top
These numbers place Mariah in a select group of artists who have managed to repeat Hot 100 success over the decades. Other names in this ranking include Morgan Wallen, Luis Fonsi, Justin Bieber, Harry Styles and Bruno Mars.
Mariah Carey: The annual phenomenon that defies all graphic logic
Originally released in 1994, “All I Want For Christmas Is You” has become a unique case in music history. The song did not enter the Hot 100 in its first year due to rules at the time, which required a physical release to be eligible for the charts.
With the change in criteria and the advancement of streaming, the single has found new life. Since 2019, the song has returned to the top every year during the Christmas period, breaking consecutive records and becoming the official soundtrack of Christmas in the 21st century.
Today the track is first in history to top the Billboard Hot 100 for seven consecutive yearsas well as being the most successful Christmas song of all time.

Mariah Carey’s impact is also reflected among other artists. Last weekend, Rihanna was seen in the audience at one of the “Christmastime” Christmas residency shows, held at Dolby Live at Park MGM in Las Vegas.
During the performance, a fan recognized the singer and took the opportunity to ask questions about the highly anticipated “R9”, an album that Rihanna has been promising for years. The video quickly went viral on social media, although many netizens believe the artist didn’t fully understand the issue at the time.
Despite this, Rihanna showed enthusiasm throughout the show and even visited Mariah in the dressing room on another occasion. The host herself reacted with tenderness to the meeting and defined the singer’s presence as “a tradition”.
With 20 weeks at the top of the Billboard Hot 100, Mariah Carey reaffirms a status that goes beyond digital records. She establishes herself as a timeless artist, capable of crossing generations, formats and industry developments without losing relevance.
As long as Christmas exists, everything indicates that Mariah will continue to reign. And every December, the world seems ready to hear this story again.
