The agreement sees a three-year contract between Marlon Freitas and Palmeiras. Botafogo is expected to receive $6 million for the negotiation (around R$33.2 million at current prices), which would be $1 million more than was initially transacted.
The initial idea of the black and white board was to keep the player and renew the contract, which runs until December 2026. However, the values offered to the athlete by the São Paulo club were considered outside the internal standard, especially for a 30-year-old player.
Palmeiras’ interest reached Botafogo on the 24th, but the authorization of direct negotiations between the athlete and the São Paulo club only came after the virtual meeting between Marlon Freitas and John Textor this Friday.
Recently Botafogo’s idol, Marlon was a key player in the Libertadores and Brasileirão victory in 2024. Captain and main leader of the team, he played 186 matches for the club, with five goals and 18 assists.
