Damage to a large-diameter pipe forced the cessation of drinking water supplies to large parts of the city of Kennedy, southwest of Bogota. The emergency occurred at Avenida Las Américas and 78th Street and is leaving dozens of neighborhoods without service as operators from the Bogotá Aqueduct and Sewer Company (Eaab) work to manage the emergency.
According to the official statement, the impacts extend to large parts of the city. The area that remains without service includes “from Calle 9 to Calle 43 Sur, between Carrera 79 and the Bogotá River,” a perimeter that concentrates high residential and commercial densities. In total, the cut affects more than 60 neighborhoods, including Castilla, Ciudad Kennedy in its various sectors, Corabastos, Patio Bonito, Roma, Timiza, Tintal, Valladolid and Villa Alsacia, as well as other parts of the city.

The Eaab explained that the discontinuation of the service was necessary in order to be able to intervene in the affected infrastructure and prevent further damage to the network. According to the company, the damage occurred unexpectedly, requiring the activation of emergency protocols and the deployment of specialized technical personnel to the site.
“Unforeseen damage to a pipe at Avenida Las Américas and Calle 78 resulted in the suspension of water service in some neighborhoods in the city of Kennedy.” stated the Bogotá Aqueduct and Sewer Company in its press release dated Saturday, December 13, 2025.
The emergency teams carried out diagnostic and repair work in the early hours of the morning in order to restore supply as quickly as possible. The company assured that the work includes the assessment of the affected section, direct interventions on the pipeline and the necessary tests before normalizing operations to ensure that no new failures occur after the water flow is reactivated.
“The Eaab expresses its commitment to citizens to resolve this emergency as quickly as possible,” the company said, while reiterating that it is keeping all service channels active to accompany affected users during the emergency.

As the work progresses, the company urged Kennedy residents to put the water stored in their homes to good use. The recommendation aims to prioritize human consumption and essential activities to avoid major shortages while the situation normalizes.
The scale of the cut is of particular concern in sectors with high commercial activity, such as Corabastos, one of the city’s main food supply centers, as well as in densely populated neighborhoods where the suspension of service has a direct impact on the daily lives of thousands of families.
Faced with this scenario, the Eaab recalled that Aqualine 116 is activated, a channel ready to respond to concerns, reports and requests from the affected community. Through this hotline, citizens can obtain up-to-date information on the progress of the work and, if necessary, request the assistance of tankers for temporary water supply.

“Acualine 116 remains able to address any concerns of users in the industry and when the tanker service is required,” the company stated in its official statement.
The company did not provide an estimated time for full service restoration, but reiterated that work will continue uninterrupted until the emergency is overcome. The Eaab assured that it would inform citizens promptly as soon as the normalization of supply in the affected districts has been achieved.
