The mayor of Belalcázar, Francisco Luis Fernández Rodríguez (PSOE) decided to resign from his institutional and organic functions a few hours after the information discovered by ABC on his messages with strong sexual content to a subordinate to the municipal council.
The PSOE, which had maintained … silence until now, reported that “the mayor communicated to the Provincial Directorate of the PSOE of Cordoba, his decision to immediately cede all his organic and institutional functions following the information published today in various media on an alleged case of sexual harassment.
“I really want you”“Will you let me eat it so you can see if it makes me feel better?” or “I am alone at the town hall”, are some of the sentences sent by Francisco Luis Fernández Rodríguez, of the PSOE, who was a municipal councilor for ten years.
The mayor himself, in a personal statement, confirms the decision to resign “as mayor and member of the PSOE” and explains “that at no time have my words and “The attitudes were of a harassing nature.” although he acknowledges that “these conversations were inappropriate and are not consistent with the behavior that, as mayor, I must demonstrate at all times.”
“I deeply regret having made this error of judgment,” he added in the press release. In addition, he defended that “the conversations were not directed against any City Hall worker”, although ABC was able to confirm the opposite.
For him, the conversation “was out of place and is a lack of respect that I didn’t attach importance to that I should have had at the time. “It pains me that my actions may have caused confusion or discomfort, and I take full responsibility for that.”
He apologized “to all those who felt offended by this situation, as well as to the residents of Belalcázar. I am fully aware that respect and integrity are essential values in any public office, and I recognize that I did not meet expectations that citizens receive from their mayor.
The former mayor of Belalcázar assured that “with this hindsight, I want to allow the municipality to continue with renewed leadership and with the peace of mind that my mistake will not influence the work of who will continue to lead the city council. “My commitment to the Belalcázar community remains strong, but I consider this the best decision to preserve the trust and respect that I have always tried to foster.”
