Madrid, December 4 (European Press) –
The First Lady of the United States, Melania Trump, announced on Thursday that Russia had returned seven more children after they were “separated” as part of the invasion of Ukraine, in a measure that comes after the agreement reached with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
These are six boys and one girl, who are already on Ukrainian territory and have been able to be reunited with their families, according to Melania Trump in a statement in which she reaffirmed her “absolute dedication to the return of these children.”
“I want to pay tribute to the continued leadership and diplomacy shown by both Russia and Ukraine to achieve the reunification of children and their families. This has contributed to creating an ‘atmosphere of cooperation’ between the two parties,” he said.
Regarding the line of communication that Donald Trump’s wife opened directly with Putin following the bilateral summit in Alaska, held in August, he said: “Together, we have offered humanitarian assistance from the United States to strengthen this reunification initiative. I hope that our efforts will, in the end, allow for greater stability in the region.”
The International Criminal Court formally charged Putin in March 2023 with forcibly deporting Ukrainian children, believing he may have committed war crimes. The Government of Ukraine has repeatedly denounced these transfers, as well as Russia’s attempts to indoctrinate children in the occupied territories.
