The National Institute of Respiratory Diseases confirmed this Friday the first case in Mexico of H3N2 influenza subclade K in a person, as reported by the Ministry of Health. “This patient responded to outpatient treatment with antiviral medications and has now recovered,” the agency noted.
The confirmation comes hours after Health Secretary David Kershenobich said Thursday evening that no cases of the variant, known as the super flu, had been identified in Mexico, which has seen a rebound in the United States and Europe.
Although rapid transmission has been observed in these regions, the Ministry of Health assures that this variant presents characteristics similar to those of the seasonal flu that circulates every year: “its clinical management is the same and the main prevention measure is vaccination. Therefore, it does not represent a cause for concern for the population”, he said in a press release.
