The president of PL Mulher, former first lady Michelle Bolsonaro, announced a temporary withdrawal from political agendas for health reasons. According to the party, “his immunity was affected and these changes were aggravated by the arrest of former President Jair Bolsonaro (PL).” Michelle announced that she would not participate in the PL Mulher National Meeting on the 13th in Rio de Janeiro. The event will therefore be moved to April 2026.
The former first lady visited her husband at the Federal Police Superintendence in Brasilia last Thursday. It was the first meeting between the two since his public fight with Bolsonaro’s children. Michelle emerged victorious from the confrontation and the PL suspended the alliance formed with Ciro Gomes (PSDB) during the Ceará elections, as she had requested. The former president’s eldest son, Flávio Bolsonaro, was forced to publicly apologize to his mother-in-law, on the orders of his father, and it was established that Michelle would participate in future decisions to collect tickets for the 2026 elections.
The next day, Flávio was raised as a pre-presidential candidate with the support of his father and stepmother.
Michelle arrived on the scene with a Bible in hand and next to the couple’s daughter, Laura. Advisor Carlos Bolsonaro (PL-RJ), second son of the former president, did not visit his father, although he had permission. He had asked the Court for authorization to modify the visit to his birthday, which was refused by Minister Alexandre de Moraes, of the Federal Court (STF). The former first lady left the scene without speaking to the press.
The leaders of the Centrão parties, who were betting on a loss of ground in party decisions, were frustrated by the outcome of the crisis. Because she attacked the Ceará alliance, disrespecting her husband’s orders, and became the target of coordinated action by her stepchildren, members of the Centrão parties believed that Michelle showed political immaturity and, therefore, would lose her leading role.
Michelle’s fall was considered certain and supported by parties like the PP, União Brasil and the Republicans, who hoped that this episode would take her out of speculation to run as vice-candidate of Planalto in 2026, while names from these parties, like the president of the Progressives, Ciro Nogueira (PI), dream of occupying this position. Members of these parties frequently complain about the lack of contact with Michelle and better dealing with Bolsonaro’s children. Due to the decision taken by the former president, his heirs will have to align their positions with those of the former first lady before making them public.
