The President Javier Milei provoked negative reactions in the international political arena by sharing a publication this Monday with a ideological bias against South America. The image showed an illustration of a map showing countries governed by left-wing parties – such as Brazil – were depicted as favela areas and those of right-wing governments – including Argentina itself – as territories seemingly futuristic and developed.
The publication – which is no longer available Since it was uploaded to Instagram stories, which last 24 hours, it was not Milei’s work. The content initially circulated in libertarian circles on Sunday night and gained greater reach and political weight after the head of the executive branch announced this in his official report.
Shortly afterwards, the picture sparked various criticisms and questions. Among them, the head of the General Secretariat of the Presidency of Lula Da Silva’s government, Guilherme Boulos. “The Argentine president’s attack on the Brazilian people is shameful” the official wrote on his social network account X.
Along with a screenshot of Milei’s Instagram story, Boulos accused: “It seems more like it Hallucination of someone seeking advice from outside voices to try to run a country. Milei is the face of the extreme right: stupidity and prejudice.
Milei’s gesture came a few hours after the right-wing candidate’s victory José Antonio Kast in the Chilean presidential election.
The result was interpreted as part of a broader political realignment in the region. According to the context presented, from 2026 Half of South America (Ecuador, Peru, Bolivia, Paraguay, Chile and Argentina) is ruled by the rightwhile the other half (Venezuela, Colombia, Guyana, Brazil and Uruguay) will remain under left-wing governments.
Milei was one of the first international leaders to speak out after the Chilean result. He congratulated Kast on social media and stated that the victory represented one Push for South America in defending values such as life, liberty and private property.
In another statement, the head of state emphasized the expectation of political alignment between the two countries. “I am confident that we will work together so that America embraces the ideals of freedom and we can free ourselves from the oppressive yoke of 21st century socialism,” he said.
For Milei, Kast’s victory represents another milestone in the search for ideological and political allies in the region. The government celebrated the inauguration on November 8th Rodrigo Paz as President of Bolivia, after two decades of dominance of the movement toward socialism, initially led by Evo Morales and then for Luis Arce. With Milei’s presence at Paz’s inauguration, Bolivia joined the group of liberal governments in the region that co-exists with Milei Santiago Pena (Paraguay), Daniel Noboa(Ecuador), Nayib Bukele (El Salvador) and Jose Mulino (Panama), all aligned with the United States of America on foreign policy matters. Donald Trump.
Thereafter, Kast began his first international visit after his victory last Sunday and visited President Milei. He arrived at the Casa Rosada and after his meeting with the President of Argentina, the President confirmed to Kast his participation in the ceremony of transfer of presidential command on March 11.
