Life was shorter. Milo J concert. guests: Cuti and Roberto Carabajal, Soledad, Nicki Nicole, Tini, Yami Safdie, AKRIILA, Paula Prieto, Ysy A, Bhavi and Radamel, among others. Features: Thursday 18th and Friday 19th, Vélez-Sarsfield Stadium. Our opinion: Good.
For Milo J A lot of things seem to be little. Perhaps it can be understood that a show to present a new album and a review of his career lasts two hours and fifty minutes, has a repertoire of 44 songs, a very extensive guest list, a production that runs like a parallel story to the creation of a song, scenographic devices such as the replica of a cemetery in the west stand of the stadium, drone dance to simulate stars, harnesses and flights that take the host of the party to one of the towers. Court lighting. There’s more: burnt trees on stage (props of course), airport ribbons on a long catwalk, platforms that take you through the entire structure of the stage and a presence that challenges you; one who appears and disappears, sometimes like an alter ego, sometimes like a supay looking for blood where there is some. Folkcore and trap, religious syncretism, pagan invocation.
“I demonstrate,” he says in “Bajo de la Piel,” surrounded by the clatter of bass drums. It is the first song of this show, serving as a presentation of their latest album. Life was shorter. It manifests itself, yes. And boy, does it. Because Milo will hold nothing back in these two presentations that he has planned for December 18th and 19th at the Vélez Stadium.

You could almost say it’s three shows in one. On the one hand, a concert where the novelty of the new album is the excuse to meet the audience and the attraction generated by their songs makes their communication with people a virtuous circle. Because most of those who jump and do pogo on the field are also able to hum a chacarera or a zamba air and react with the same naturalness to everything Milo J suggests. It attracts attention even in a generation Centenary celebration May there be some (actually many) who give their cell phones a break to enjoy the show without any intermediaries. A real curiosity is the fact that between many cell phones held up there is a large audience that gets carried away by the songs, unless the batteries are massively dead.
Another show was the one that was experienced as an art gallery. Because in this sense the protagonist does not forego a duet. From the voice of the eternal Mercedes Sosa in the “Canción del Jangadero” (which appears on Milo’s latest album) to many others invited to the gala: Cuti and Roberto Carabajal, Soledad, Nicki Nicole, Tini, Yami Safdie, AKRIILA, Paula Prieto, Ysy A. Bhavi, Radamel and the Uruguayan Murga Agarrate Catalina (who features heavily in this show), among other names from a long list.

“You’re one of the people, you’re a legend,” Nicki Nicole told him when it was her turn to sing “Dispara,” the hit they recorded together a few years ago. And probably all of this production and bombast has to do with that phrase and that gift from Milo J. He dreams big (that’s why he has Silvio Rodríguez recorded on his album), the audience receives him with great enthusiasm and the number of his viewers on the platforms is growing.
The “third show” is the most complicated to perform because it presents the challenge of telling a story (or several) as a parallel story to what is happening in the songs. Sometimes it can work like video clips. So often we find a story told in the three minutes of a song, and then another reading of that theme can be created based on the story (if there is one) told in the clip.

Life was shorter but better than a long one without meaning. This is one of the ideas that underlies this presence of Peter Lanzani, who seems to be there to destroy everything that comes his way, even if in the end he himself becomes a victim of his actions. The actor knows his stuff very well and proves it in this show. There are even good ideas, such as working with a stage model that appears enlarged on the screens.
But just because multitasking is a clear sign of these times doesn’t mean it’s always effective. Sometimes it’s difficult to move forward. Especially when Milo J adds new situations. In return, we can offer a maxim that is a symbol of all time in the art world: Less is more. An example in this case is a block of songs whose lyrics were the focus: “MAI”, which is still better than any stage challenge, “Una bala” or “Penas de antaño”. With “Niño” it also happens that emotions were included right from the first concert. He found it difficult to sing as he sat on the stage floor with his legs crossed and his head bowed in his hands. The power still lies in the song, and it lies here because Milo J is a minstrel of existence. The greatest virtues of your work are not in abundance. Of course, it’s okay to take risks, experiment, be right and wrong. It’s part of the job.
