
Araxá (MG) and towns in the region were hit by a 4.4 magnitude earthquake on Friday evening (12/12). The earthquake occurred around 10:10 p.m. and was felt in different areas of the city and its surroundings, according to the town hall and Civil Defense. So far, no injuries or material damage have been reported.
Civil Protection teams continue to monitor and collect information to ensure the safety of the population. The agency warns that, in the next six hours, new tremors could be recorded.
The mining companies established in the commune were activated preventively. According to Civil Defense, the dams remain stable and are monitored to check if there have been any structural changes after the shock.
In a statement, Civil Defense advised the population to remain calm, seek safe places and only follow information disseminated through official channels. Updates may be released as technical evaluations progress.

Brazil Earthquakes reported that an earthquake of preliminary magnitude 3.9 was recorded at 10:10:44 p.m. (Brasilia time), with an epicenter near Araxá.
According to the team, the data is still being refined and under special monitoring and may be adjusted after more detailed analysis.

Guidelines for the population
During earthquakes, Civil Defense recommends:
- people in a closed environment stay on site, away from windows, glass and objects that could fall, protecting their heads and necks and avoiding the use of elevators.
- Anyone on the street should look for open spaces, away from facades, poles and wiring.
- Drivers should reduce their speed and stop in a safe place, away from bridges and overpasses.
After the shaking, it is important to observe for signs of structural hazard, such as cracks, popping sounds or the smell of gas. In case of danger, it is advisable not to stay in the property and to call Civil Protection.
