The General Inspectorate supervises electoral services and defines procedures for regional inspections and civil registry offices
THE Superior Electoral Tribunal (TSE) elected, Tuesday evening 16, Minister Antonio Carlos Ferreira, of Superior Court of Justice (STJ)as inspector general of electoral justice during the 2026 elections. The inauguration is scheduled for this Thursday 18, at 10 a.m., in a solemn plenary session of the TSE. He succeeds Minister Isabel Gallotti, whose two-year mandate ended on November 21.
The vote took place using an electronic ballot box. The result, announced by Minister Estela Aranha, was six to one for Ferreira, the longest-serving representative of the STJ at the TSE.
The position of inspector general is occupied by a minister or serving minister of the STJ, according to the order of seniority at the TSE. The General Inspectorate is responsible for monitoring the regularity of electoral services throughout the country and guiding procedures in regional internal affairs bodies and electoral offices.
The unit also manages the electoral register, which collects biographical and biometric data of voters and manages services related to this information.
Composition and mandates at the TSE
The TSE has seven members: three ministers of STFtwo from the STJ and two lawyers with notable legal knowledge, appointed by the STF and designated by the President of the Republic. There are also substitute ministers, in equal numbers and in the same categories.
Each minister has a mandate of two years and can only be reappointed once, for the same period. The exception concerns STJ representatives, who only hold their position for a period of two years, without renewal.
