Minister Alexandre de Moraes, Federal Court (STF)authorized former President Jair Bolsonaro (PL) to carry out medical examinations Superintendence of the Federal Police (PF) of the Federal District, where he is incarcerated.
The authorization responds to a request presented by the defense last Thursday 11, to allow the doctor Bruno Luís Barbosa Cherulli enter the PF premises Using portable ultrasound equipment, perform ultrasound examinations of the right and left inguinal (groin) areas.
In his decision, published this Saturday 13, Moraes emphasized that, as determined in previous decisions, visits by Bolsonaro’s doctors do not require prior communication.
The minister requested an expertise to decide whether or not to authorize surgical interventions
Last week, the former president’s defense asked him to leave PF Prison and be transferred to DF Star Hospital, in Brasilia, to undergo two surgeries: one to treat hiccups and another to treat complications from an inguinal hernia.
Moraes, however, requested an official medical expertise from the PF before deciding whether or not to authorize the surgical operations requested by the former president. The report must be presented within 15 days.
In his order, the minister said that upon his arrest on November 22, the former president underwent a forensic examination and that the evaluation revealed “no medical conditions that would indicate the need for immediate surgical intervention.”
“Since that time, there has been no news of an emergency medical situation with Jair Messias Bolsonaro,” the order states. The minister also said that Bolsonaro receives full-time medical care, on duty, at the Federal Police Superintendence in Brasilia.
“It should also be noted that the medical examinations presented by the defense are not up to date and that the most recent one was carried out 3 (three) months ago, without the doctors indicating at the time the need for immediate surgical intervention,” Moraes wrote.
