At an event held by the National Council of Justice (CNJ) on Tuesday morning (2/11), Minister Alexandre de Moraes, of the Federal Supreme Court (STF), said the judiciary needs to have the humility to accept some valid criticism.
He said: “It is clear that many criticisms are valid, and we must have the humility to accept some criticisms, or several valid criticisms, and rethink and not fall into the temptation of wanting to solve all the world’s problems.”

But in the same speech, Alexandre de Moraes stated that many of the criticisms of the judiciary on social media are coming from powerful economic groups that believe that “equality” and “liberty” are theirs alone.
“The power of the judiciary has led its enemies, especially those who believe that equality and freedom are meant only for them, for a particular group, and not for the whole of society, to make these economically powerful and internationally integrated groups begin to attack the judiciary,” Moraes said.
He added: “And this is ultimately reflected, clearly, in the research, and it is reflected in the opinions of analysts, in a part of the media that is supposed to be independent. Today, any influencer has become a judicial analyst. He does not even know the composition of the court, but he is the greatest judicial analyst of all time. But he has 10 or 20 million followers. This means that the judiciary is under attack.”
Alexandre de Moraes defends the Judges’ Necklace
In the same speech, Alexandre de Moraes Advocate for the return of frills for judges, such as additional term of service (ATS).known as the “quinquennial”.
“We have to defend the valorization of the profession through the return of the bonus for length of service. It was a mistake. This (ending the five-year term) was a mistake. Someone entering the judiciary cannot earn the same thing as someone who has been there for 40 years, and for the later retiree to lose many benefits and receive a significant reduction in their salaries,” Moraes said.
The “five-year period” includes an increase in judges’ salaries every five years. This case was under discussion in the Federal Supreme Court last year, but the trial was suspended after a request for reconsideration by Minister Gilmar Mendes. Payment of these benefits is suspended between 2006 and 2022. They were later removed when judges began to be paid through subsidies.
