The seventh edition of “Christmas of the Humble” saw a large gathering and the presence of the Archbishop of the capital Buenos Aires, Monsignor Gustavo Carrara, who accompanied a day marked by faith, solidarity and community gatherings.
The initiative brought together community, religious and political organizations from La Plata and the region. The organization emphasized that the proposal “multiplies its blessings to welcome all humble people,” on a day specifically intended for those who find themselves in vulnerable situations.
“We celebrated the birth of our Savior Jesus together with hundreds of ordinary families, evangelical churches united by the cross, foundations, volunteers and neighbors,” said the event organizers. In addition, they emphasized that “the serving and sharing of Christmas dinner has taught us that, united in community out of love for our brothers, we renew our faith and our intention to serve our neighbors,” and they called for “uniting people’s faith and serving our neighbors with love, as Jesus taught.”
During the event, more than 500 homeless and socially disadvantaged people took part in the solidarity proposal. The Pastoral Council of La Plata invited the poorest sections of the population in particular to participate and the participants shared a common dinner consisting of empanadas, chorizos, roasts with various salads and desserts.
The day started at 5:30 p.m. with a central moment: baptisms for boys, girls and adults who wanted this. The sacrament, led by Monsignor Carrara, took place in the cathedral church and represented the first step into the Christian life for the participants.
Later, at 6:30 p.m., a live nativity scene organized by the work of Father Cajade was presented, accompanied by music, murga and an open radio promoted by the organizations Chicxs del Pueblo. A surprise cultural space took place at 7:30 p.m., which gave way to the blessing and community dinner at 8:00 p.m., with a focus on homeless people and families with greater difficulties.
