The Community of Madrid offers activities to students of 105 public schools in 65 municipalities during the Christmas holidays, to facilitate the reconciliation of families with training and leisure options for schoolchildren on non-school days. This is how that explains it … On Friday, the Minister of Education, Emilio Viciana, during his visit to the León Felipe de Arganda del Rey Preschool and Primary Education Center, where he was able to see first-hand the functioning of some of the sports, musical or healthy habits workshops that take place these Christmas days.
This initiative is part of the regional government’s aid program which began last year to finance the opening of educational centers on non-school days, at the start of the school year and during the Christmas and Easter holiday periods.
The main objectives of this program are to contribute to the comprehensive training of minors and to offer families opportunities to reconcile personal and professional life.
The Madrid Executive collaborates with the town halls, which own the public preschool and primary schools (CEIP), those of preschool, primary and secondary education (CEIPSO) and the rural collective schools (ARC) in which the activities are carried out. It is the municipalities themselves which decide to make the request and are responsible for their organization.
The Community of Madrid includes the offer of extracurricular activities during school days. In this case, support sessions, guided and reinforcement studies, languages, sports or artistic tasks of all kinds are developed. Added to these programs is the Open Playgrounds course, a pioneering measure by the Community of Madrid to allow the opening of playgrounds and school libraries in the evening, once the school day is over.
