Barcelona, 13. December (EFE). – The Mossos d’Esquadra and the National Police attribute two assassination attempts and five shootings to the faction of the Trinitarios gang, which was beheaded on December 2, arresting 19 people, including one of its leaders at the European level and one of the bosses in Catalonia.
As both authorities explain today, the joint operation in the early hours of December 2nd involved five firearms, numerous knives, drugs, 30,000 euros in cash, computer and telephone equipment as well as symbols related to the Trinitarios gang, against which they are investigating several violent contract attacks, two attempted murders and drug trafficking.
The dismantled faction is linked to at least five violent attacks involving firearms, such as a shootout on June 8 in L’Hospitalet de Llobregat (Barcelona), in which one was seriously injured, or last night’s shootout in Sant Joan, in the Montigalà industrial area in Badalona (Barcelona), where they opened fire on several people to steal chains and jewelry, leaving two injured with a firearm and one with a knife, according to both entities.
As the Mossos and the police reported in a statement, on June 25, some of the investigators also intercepted a young man riding a scooter in L’Hospitalet de Llobregat (Barcelona) and shot him in the leg in order to rob him.
The joint investigation began in February following an attempted murder following a violent robbery with a firearm in L’Hospitalet, during which one person involved in the shooting was arrested.
As a result of this violent episode, investigators were able to uncover, identify and decapitate a Trinitarios faction based in Catalonia, allegedly linked to robberies with violence and intimidation, two attempted homicides and drug trafficking.
The gang, with defined roles and distribution of functions among its members, was initially responsible for carrying out robberies using violence and intimidation: the leaders passed the targets on to the second level, which organized the lower members of the ranks for surveillance, usually in discos with a Latin American atmosphere, where the robberies were committed.
According to investigators, when carrying out the robberies, they typically waited for the victims to leave the nightclubs and attacked them with firearms at least five times.
As the investigation continued, the Mossos and police discovered that the group was also engaged in drug trafficking, an activity coordinated both by members who were at large and by other members who were in prison at the time.
For this reason, the unit, in collaboration with prison officials and agents from the Mossos Penitentiary Environment Unit, also searched seven cells and three penitentiaries where some members of the group were temporarily detained.
The police operation was carried out in Barcelona, L’Hospitalet de Llobregat (Barcelona), Esplugues de Llobregat (Barcelona), Sant Boi de Llobregat (Barcelona), Cubelles (Barcelona) and Salou (Tarragona). 19 people between the ages of 18 and 49 were arrested and 17 houses and three rooms belonging to the people under investigation were searched.
