A survey by Brazil’s Fundação Getulio Vargas Institute of Economics (FGV Ibre) found that 55.6% of respondents thought it was “very unlikely or unlikely” to lose their main job and/or source of income in the next six months, while 15.7% said it was “likely or very likely” that this would happen. The remaining 28.7% indicated that they “wouldn’t know” how to rate this topic.
This is the sixth edition of the Labor Market Survey’s Job Quality Indicators, which addresses the topic of the risk of losing a job and/or one’s main source of income. The result provides data for the quarter ending November 2025.
According to the FGV, in the November results, the lowest percentage (7.8%) of people was recorded stating that the risk of losing their job or main source of income was “very unlikely”. On the other hand, this is the highest value recorded in the “unlikely” part, with 47.8%. In June, these percentages were 14.3% and 39.9% respectively.
“The data from the new indicators of the survey have reinforced the reading of a labor market in full turmoil. Only a small part of employed people indicate fear of losing their job or their source of income. With the unemployment rate remaining at the lowest levels of the historical series, it is natural that jobs feel more secure in their job or in a replacement, if necessary”, underlined in a note the economist of the FGV, Ibre Rodolpho Tobler.
According to him, despite these favorable results, it is possible to see some first signs of slowdown, such as a change in the intensity of responses.
“The migration of respondents from the “very unlikely” to “unlikely” part seems to indicate less security, compared to what was observed in previous months.
Since July 2025, the FGV Ibre has started to publish monthly indicators on the quality of employment in the country. Data is published monthly, based on quarterly moving averages. The information is obtained from the Labor Market Survey (SMT), a monthly survey by FGV Ibre, carried out among the Brazilian population.
