- Motta defends dismissal of Ramagem and Eduardo and says PL dosimetry ‘decompresses’ political climate
Motta received a call in the morning from the general director of the PF, Andrei Rodrigueswho warned him against the action that targeted deputies Carlos Jordy (PL-RJ) and Sóstenes Cavalcante (PL-RJ), the latter leader of his party in the House.
“Of course, when we have a colleague who is the target of an action, we are not happy about it, but the judiciary fulfills its role,” Motta said. “If there is any suspicion, an investigation really needs to be carried out,” he added.
The PF’s suspicions center on a misappropriation of resources from the parliamentary quota – an additional monthly amount paid to deputies and senators to cover expenses related to the exercise of their mandate, such as tickets, food and accommodation.
Sóstenes called the operation political persecution against members of the opposition, conservatives and right-wingers, and said the action would be a “smokescreen.” For him, this is a new chapter in what he calls the “persecution of former President Jair Bolsonaro”. Carlos Jordy said on social media that he was the target of “relentless persecution” and denied diverting resources from parliamentary quotas.
About surveys deviations from parliamentary amendmentsThe Speaker of the House said the “vast majority” of MPs are managing resources properly and expressed unease at the widespread criticism.
“We respect the role of the Supreme Court, we have no commitment to those who do not function properly, but if there are exaggerations and exacerbations, we can, as president, dialogue,” he added.
