The session dedicated to the dosimetry project began early on Wednesday, revealing the climate of rupture between Hugo Motta (Republicanos-PB) and Lindbergh Farias (PT-RJ), a few hours after the President of the Chamber ordered the forced dismissal of deputy Glauber Braga (PSOL-RJ) from the Board of Directors.
The episode – which gave rise to accusations of abuse of authority, expulsion of the press and grassroots protests – led Lindbergh to declare that Motta “is no longer capable of presiding over the House.” The atmosphere was already on fire when the discussion on dosimetry led the PT leader to criticize Motta again.
Lindbergh accused the Speaker of the House of distorting the agenda and acting opportunistically:
— Your Excellency, in your inauguration speech, you spoke about Ulysses Guimarães and you even said “we are still here”. Your Excellency then places this project opportunistically. You are committing a crime by interfering in a process that is still ongoing,” the PT member said.
The response came a few minutes later and raised the tone of the crisis. Motta saved the Constituent Assembly and targeted the PT:
— To hear here on several occasions members of the PT invoking and talking about Ulysses Guimarães while the party itself voted against the discussion of the Constitution is a historical inconsistency — he declared in a confrontational tone.
Twenty minutes later, Benedita da Silva (PT-RJ) asked Motta about his statement and the president repeated once again that his party had voted against the Constitution.
The exchange of accusations crystallized the accelerated deterioration of relations between the two men who had been separated for weeks.
The relationship has gone through crises since the treatment of PEC Blindagem and broke down after Motta chose opponent Guilherme Derrite (PP-SP) to cover the PL Antifaction, which was considered a provocation by the government.
