The President of the Chamber of Deputies, Hugo Motta (Republicanos-PB), ordered the maintenance of the escort of federal deputy Talíria Petrone (PSol-RJ), leader of the PSol in the Chamber, in a “cautious” manner. The parliamentarian canceled the parliamentarian’s escort last Monday (8/12).
According to the Presidency of the House, the MP’s custody was suspended on the basis of a technical opinion from the Federal Legislative Police Department, issued on December 4, after consultation with the Civil Police and the Public Ministry of Rio de Janeiro, as well as the Federal Police.
The Forces noted that there were no longer any recurring threats or risks to the parliamentarian’s physical integrity which would justify the need for an escort.
In light of the Member’s request for reconsideration, the matter will be re-evaluated, in light of House precedents and new information provided by the Member.
As a result, Motta ordered that the escort be maintained until a final decision was made regarding the deputy’s request.
PSol leader accuses Motta of reprisals
According to the MP, the measure was taken without notice and did not take into account the risks to the integrity of the parliamentarian, who is the target of constant threats.
“Motta’s decision was taken unilaterally, underestimating the risks for the integrity of the parliamentarian and her two children, and comes the day after Motta’s defeat, after Talíria became leader of the bench to save the deputy Glauber Braga (PSol/RJ) from the dismissal voted in plenary and to directly confront the Amnesty PL for the putschists of January 8,” underlines Talíria in a note.
According to the parliamentarian, Motta’s attitude was a retaliatory measure after the MP intensified his criticism of the Speaker of the House throughout the week. The parliamentarian reportedly declared that Motta no longer met the conditions to preside over the House.
Talíria was also one of the organizers who worked for the plenary to refuse the impeachment of deputy Glauber Braga (PSol-RJ), in addition to criticizing the vote of the bill that reduces the sentences of those convicted of the acts of January 8, called PL Dosimetry and approved by the House.
The two episodes took place between Tuesday (12/9) and Wednesday (12/10), after a day of great tension in the House.
The decision of the President of the House was, however, made official last Monday (12/8), before the events mentioned by Talíria.
