The President of the Chamber of Deputies, Hugo Motta (Republicanos-PB), declared this Friday (19/12) that he would honor the agreement to support the nomination of Deputy Odair Cunha (PT-MG), in the photo presented, to the post of Minister of the Federal Court of Auditors (TCU). The commitment was signed while Odair was still leader of the PT, in exchange for the support of PT deputies for Motta’s candidacy for president of the Chamber in 2024.
“TCU is a process that we will deal with next year. Everyone knows that we have this public commitment with Deputy Odair (Cunha). It was a commitment made during the campaign, and everyone also knows that I honor the commitments that I make,” said the Speaker of the House in a cafe with journalists.
With the retirement of Minister Aroldo Cedraz scheduled for the first half of 2026, Odair Cunha appears most likely to occupy the position that remains vacant at TCU.
Government members feared that the recent break between Motta and the current leader of the PT, Lindbergh Farias (RJ), would endanger the agreement. Odair, however, is considered a name with a more moderate profile within the party and maintains a good dialogue with Centrão leaders.
“We will dialogue with party leaders. The decision is taken in plenary, it is not an individual choice. We will evaluate, with the leaders, the best time to put the issue to a vote,” Motta said.
