The two police officers and 11 other people were denounced in court by Gaeco. All were placed in preventive detention. They will be responsible for the crime of forming a private militia. The action, called Tête d’Or, is supported by the internal affairs bodies of the civil and military police. The investigations are taking place in Barra da Tijuca and Jacarepaguá, in the southwest zone of Rio, and in the municipalities of Belford Roxo and Duque de Caxias, in addition to the penitentiary units.
In a statement, the Civil Police said that the General Inspectorate of the company participated with the Public Prosecutor’s Office in the operation and that arrest and search and seizure warrants were issued against the accused agent. “Investigations are underway,” the text states.
Gaeco’s investigation revealed that the militia leaders are Diego dos Santos Souza, Cabeça de Ouro, and Carlos Adriano Pereira Evaristo, Carlinhos da Padaria. Prosecutors say the two controlled the criminal group’s actions in the chain. The collection of the required taxes was handled by Angelo Adriano de Jesus Guarany, Skinny, according to the deputy. He is also appointed responsible for coordinating communication between arrested bosses and collectors on the streets.
Prosecutors describe that the paramilitary group committed extortion against merchants and motorcycle taxi drivers. There are also cases of torture, executions and armed conflicts over territory. The group operated in the neighborhoods of Wona, Lote XV and Vale das Mangueiras, in Belford Roxo, and in the Pantanal neighborhood, in Duque de Caxias.
According to Gaeco, the investigations gathered evidence of the existence of financial control, accountability and orders transmitted by messages between militia members. The investigation also identified armed conflict with a rival group, instances of betrayal, coercion by members and planning attacks.
