Legend says that Agatha Christie She didn’t consider becoming a writer until her sister told her that detective novels bored her. Within a few pages, I already knew who the murderer was. So Christie decided to write one that her sister couldn’t solve. Decades later, the Englishwoman was, with Conan Doyle, the greatest reference in black literature and each of his novels would be adapted for film and television.
Agatha Christie’s shadow is so long that we can even recognize it in works which, a priori, have nothing to do with Poirot or Marple. This is the case of the Swedish series The mysteries of the Hotel Finse, available on Filmin from November 25. Four 45-minute episodes co-created by Sara Heldt (Death of a pilgrim) and Erik Skjoldbjaerg (Narvik), The mysteries of the Finse Hotel It is based on a novel by Anne Holt, a crime writer and also a former Minister of Justice in Norway.
What is “The Mysteries of the Hotel Finse” about?
It all begins during a snowstorm. A train traveling from Stockholm to Narvik (Norway) suffers a devastating impact when it hits an avalanche. The avalanche completely stops the convoy and leaves the passengers trapped.
The crew must then take refuge in an old and isolated hotel in the nearby mountains. This hotel becomes an involuntary prison, where isolation amplifies fear and tension among the survivors.
Among the stranded passengers is the perceptive and taciturn policewoman Hanne Wilhelmsen. When mysterious murders begin to occur – bodies found in locked rooms, with unexplained injuries and scattered clues that defy logic – panic spreads like a virus among the confined group.
Although she has been temporarily suspended from the police force, in a void that has left her vulnerable and questioning her own judgment, Hanne cannot ignore her instincts and begins to investigate with determination, questioning strange companions in misfortune, examining crime scenes under the dim light of kerosene lamps, and connecting invisible wires amid the snowy chaos.
This claustrophobic environment, where the snow outside reflects the cold inside of souls, generates an atmosphere of absolute distrust, with every suspicious look and conversation loaded with hidden subtexts. Hanne navigates this maze of lies, driven by her sense of duty, as the storm rages and the murders continue, threatening to consume everyone.
