Nacho Cano. Are you in THE WORLD?
Journalist. Yeah.
NORTH CAROLINA.. Thank God THE WORLD exists. Now everyone thinks so, but there was a time when it was you, the Civil Guard, me and two others. And now they will have to create a special prison to lock them all up. (Laughs)
Q. They wanted to put you in prison. What happened to the complaint for hiring illegal immigrants for Malinche?
North Carolina Nothing, what will it be? They knew they had so much shit to cover up that they had to invent smokescreens. So many shenanigans and outrages that this gang has committed. They all have to go to prison. And the boss is the first to leave.
Q. Pedro Sanchez?
NORTH CAROLINA.. But come on… Or whatever.
Q. Do you think Pedro Sánchez will end up in prison?
North Carolina I should do it.
Q. But it is very difficult to prove certain things.
North Carolina It’s pretty easy here. In fact, we all know everything. Thanks to the courage of the judges, things are falling into place
Q. How is your legal case going?
North Carolina The Provincial Court said nothing at all.
Q. You denounced the judge for prevarication.
NORTH CAROLINA.. Yes, because he was struggling and knew he was going to retire.
Q. Have you retired yet?
North Carolina Yes. She had already understood everything. He requested an inspection of the work and the inspection said there was nothing wrong. Then the judge said she didn’t like it and demanded another one. They did a second inspection and found nothing either.
Q. There was no irregularity.
NORTH CAROLINA.. I mean, look what an aberration of this criminal gang that has tentacles everywhere. They must all fall and when they enter the prison he will start singing for everyone. These will be the biggest hits of Christmas. And when they catch Maduro, he will be number one.
Q. You also denounced Óscar Puente for removing Renfe’s advertising from the musical “Malinche”.
North Carolina They wanted to discredit me. Malinche It was a very big spectacle which depended a lot on the sponsors private and the year and a half the judge kept my case open – knowing it was all a lie – killed us.
Q. Did this hurt you a lot financially?
North Carolina These people must pay for what they did. It seems very good to me that they are going to prison. But who pays all of us who have done so much harm to be free and to think? Someone will have to pay, right?
Q. Has the audience dropped off?
North Carolina It was above all the financing. These socialists who like the word progressive, they only screw people and especially workers. And if they have to destroy something that creates a lot of jobs, they do it because they don’t care about people.
Q. You gave a speech in which you asked businessmen not to be afraid of having money and creating jobs.
NORTH CAROLINA.. Yes, part of the reason we got to this situation is because these people felt this impunity to do what they wanted and that has a lot to do with a lot of business people not raising their voices. What I’m saying is what most people think, whether on the left or the right. It’s not about left or right, it’s about the fact that this is a criminal gang of scoundrels. They are thieves, swindlers and con artists. We must judge them and put them on the train.
Q. Cases of sexual harassment were also discovered, which was the last thing that could be expected from the PSOE, the standard bearer of feminism.
North Carolina But did they carry this flag of feminism in the Peugeot where they all devoted themselves to prostitution? I say this with all my respect to the prostitutes who do a job and get paid. They don’t do any work, but they collect your taxes and mine, you understand? They live on absolute shit.
Q. Is there anything left on the island of that hippie spirit that you reflect in “Ibiza Paradise”?
North Carolina Yes, the north of the island is still intact. The hippie was someone who tried to return to the relationship with nature, music… There were also years when a lot of people got involved in everything and a lot of people died. That’s why I tell young people not to do drugs, because they won’t end up well. In a way, at that time, they participated in the excitement of music and experimentation. Even though the music is more techno now, Ibiza is a music island with a different stigma.
Q. What was the strongest experience you had there?
North Carolina I remember the year 82 when I left with Mecano. He performed at Ku nightclub on a stage above a small swimming pool and a booth that could accommodate 300 people. We were playing and I saw that there were naked girls swimming. I thought it was a special place and I’ve always been to Ibiza ever since.
Q. Do you have a house on the island?
North Carolina We started to earn some money and I bought an apartment. In the 80s it was 100 meters from Pachá to my house and it took two or three days to get there. That’s why I then bought a house in the north and settled down, but not so close to Pachá.
P. Le Consell challenged the name of the musical for using the term Ibiza.
North Carolina There are 950 brands bearing the Ibiza name. The name Ibiza was created by musicians and artists, not by those in the Consell, who never did anything. Apart from that it is called Consell de Eivissa and they themselves deny the name Ibiza. Who are you to dispute the name Ibiza and why? These are things for politicians. One day I have to ask them, “Hey, what’s happened to you? Don’t you have something better to do? Can’t you promote clean beaches?”
Q. Why a musical in English?
North Carolina The protagonists are American and the story takes place in English. Hippies who did not want to participate in the Vietnam War came to Ibiza and began experimenting with drugs and sex. In addition, we want to make Gran Vía the musical capital of Europe.
P. Malinche, it’s Mexico time. How is the musical received there?
North Carolina Very good from day one, with great respect. The Mexican public is very grateful and very proud to reconnect with its history in a positive way. It’s very successful and we’ve already had 160,000 people since May and we’re going to extend it until June. Then the FIFA World Cup comes for two months and we come back after.
Q. The dancer Jesús Carmona told me that you are tireless and that you made him repeat a choreography 10 times.
North Carolina I think he’s the tireless one. Jesús Carmona is one of the most energetic people I’ve ever seen in my life and he’s on an anti-energy diet because he just danced for three quarters of an hour and then smoked a cigarette and took a shit. It’s something from another planet. He is able to go with flamenco where no one else can go. The great thing about working with him is that he’s so fast, so intuitive and he also reads you that in one minute he’s changed everything for you and the next minute you tell him to change it again and he does it again. Jesús and I are going to do more things together and really big things.
Q. We saw you playing keyboards during the presentation of this musical, will you return to the stage?
North Carolina Let’s see, these degenerates and these scoundrels have taken me away from what I am: an artist. I don’t like being on TV fighting with them, but I had to defend myself. I never sue anyone, but if you sue me, I must defend myself, because by defending myself, I defend all those who are with me, which are many. There are a lot of people being knocked down and left jobless by these vile scoundrels because of the beach bar they set up.
Q. And all this because of your support for Ayuso?
North Carolina I thank Ayuso and, of course, I support her. If Ayuso governed this country, we would be number one in all camps because she has intelligence and energy… You have to look at people for results. You have to like me for my songs and, if you don’t like my hair or what I think, I don’t care. You have to see Ayuso because of the situation in Madrid. Ayuso won thanks to popular votes and placed Madrid in the lead. Nobody voted for Pedro Sánchez, he destroyed this country and made enemies of us all. All this to maintain their cover against the criminal gang they constitute.
Q. You still have the support of the separatists.
North Carolina Those who don’t care about Spain. The separatists will support everything that destroys our modus vivendi and our operations because they want to get out of the equation.
Q. And what do you attribute to the fact that everything you do causes so much controversy?
North Carolina I don’t have a clue, because the truth is that’s not my intention. My intention is to make songs. Since I was five years old, I’ve been doing this with Mecano and outside of Mecano.
Q. Maybe because you’re going against the grain.
North Carolina It’s just that when the flow is stupid, I have to go against the flow. When you say to the artists: “Come on guys, all be stupid and dance the water we’re stealing from everyone and we’ll give you a little grant.” Well yes, I’m going against the grain. If the stream is full of people who are doing things and have a vision for the future, I will join the stream.
Q. What do you ask the Three Wise Men?
North Carolina Let’s do our job and do it well. And, if possible, let the taxes not go to thieves so that we can do our work with more joy.
Nacho Cano, yesterday, played keyboards during the presentation of his new musical ‘Ibiza Paradise’.
