More than 1.5 million homes remain without power in Greater São Paulo a day after strong wind gusts hit the region (see the map of cities whose supply is compromised below). According to the latest update from Enel Distribuição São Paulo, as of 5:12 a.m. this Thursday, 11,1,533,330 people still had their power supply cut off.
Since 2 a.m., around 225,000 connections have been restored. Embu-Guaçu, Juquitiba and Vargem Grande Paulista are the municipalities with the highest number of people affected, with at least 40% of these towns without electricity.
On Wednesday 10, Greater São Paulo was hit by strong winds that compromised energy supplies. The winds, which reached speeds of more than 98 km/h in parts of São Paulo, are the result of the passage of an extratropical cyclone that formed in the south of the country and advanced towards the Southeast region.
