Nearly 400 athletes participated this Saturday in the Regional School Cross Country Championship organized in Novés (Toledo), on a morning marked by cold and a strong participation. The competition brought together runners from the sub-14, sub-16 and … under 18 years oldwith a clear domination of the Toledo teams in the provincial ranking.
The athletes competed for individual and team titles, in a key event in the regional calendar, notably for the under-16 and under-18 categories, which count towards the Spanish Championship. In this sense, the first three classified, both in the male and female categories, obtained the direct passage to the national championshipwhich will take place on January 21 in Almodóvar del Río (Córdoba).
Additionally, athletes who finished fourth and fifth in the under-16 and under-18 categories will have a second chance to qualify. These places will be decided on January 10 at Criptana Field Mills crosswhere the first two classified in each category will accompany the first three already classified for the National.
In sport, the individual winners were Vega Magdaleno Bermudezfrom Training Rey de Toledo, who won the under-14 female category with a time of 6 minutes and 6 seconds, and Marcos Gomez Martinby Soliss UDAT Talavera, winner in the sub-14 men’s category with 6 minutes and 16 seconds.
In the under-16 category, Ella Martin Ruizfrom Soliss UDAT Talavera, won the women’s victory with a time of 10 minutes and 6 seconds, while among the men the winner was Justo Rodriguez Martinfrom Training Rey Toledo, with a time of 8 minutes and 18 seconds.
Finally, among those under 18, Rebecca Pérezfrom Soliss UDAT Talavera, was proclaimed winner among the women with a time of 13 minutes and 43 seconds, and Gonzalo Montealegre Muñoz, from Atletismo Cuenca, did the same among the men with 11 minutes and 52 seconds.
The largest collection of medals, both in the individual events and in the team classification, went to the clubs. Training Rey de Toledo and Soliss UDAT Talaveraalongside Tarancón and the Toledo Athletics Club, who achieved an exceptional performance in a Regional that once again confirmed the good state of school athletics in Castilla-La Mancha.
