MADRID, December 8 (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Israeli government has confirmed that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu will meet with United States President Donald Trump on December 29 to discuss developments in the peace plan for the Gaza Strip.
The agreement now faces a particularly crucial moment: Hamas denounces the fact that Israel never respected the ceasefire agreed in October, with attacks that cost the lives of more than 350 Palestinians, while the Israeli government refused to abandon its positions inside the enclave until Hamas handed over the remains of the last hostage and disarmed.
Hamas has considered the remote possibility of admitting this last aspect but first wishes to proceed with the deployment of an international security force in Gaza which would gradually withdraw Israeli forces.
In this context, Israeli government spokesperson Shosh Bedrosian confirmed the meeting on Monday, December 29, during which Trump and Netanyahu “will discuss future steps and phases, as well as the international stabilization force”, reports the Israeli newspaper “Times of Israel”.
The government did not want to confirm other aspects like those reported by Israeli television channel N12, which speaks of an eight-day trip with up to two meetings between Netanyahu and Trump during the Israeli prime minister’s visit, which would take place at Trump’s property at Mar-a-Lago in Florida.
Washington was working hard to ensure that Egyptian President Abdel Fattá al Sisi could also attend the meeting, as an international mediator and Gaza neighbor. During his eight-day visit, the Israeli Prime Minister will also meet with Vice President JD Vance; Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth, according to Channel 12.
