Netflix promises to expand its catalog of Brazilian productions in 2026. During the first edition of the “Made here — Born in Brazil” event, organized on Tuesday (9) in São Paulo for guests and the press, the streaming platform gave several spoilers on its news for next year. Five new series, two films and a reality TV show were mentioned. Among the announcements are the series “Rauls”, which renews the partnership with producer Kondzilla (responsible for “Sintonia”), the feature film “The Stranger in the Bed”, by writer and screenwriter Raphael Montes and director Esmir Filho, and the reality show “Your mother knows you”, presented by actress Cláudia Raia.
Before giving a “taste” of the news, spokespersons Elisabetta Zenatti, vice president of content at Netflix in Brazil, Haná Vaisman, head of fiction series, Elisa Chalfon, head of non-fiction, and Higia Ikeda, head of films, celebrated the platform’s recent Brazilian successes. The film “Caramelo”, which was in the Top 10 worldwide for eight consecutive weeks, and the series “The Game Owners”, already renewed for a second season, are some of the memorable releases.
In a relaxing moment with the audience, actress Mel Maia took the stage to talk about the Netflix application. One of the protagonists of “The Game Owners”, she showed how personalized recommendations for subscribers work and talked about voice acting.
— How did people “outside” hear our scenes, with fights and swearing? — the actress joked, putting scenes from the fictional series in other languages, such as Italian.
Cláudia Raia and the astrological series
The meeting featured five new announcements: two series and two films that will begin production in the first quarter of 2026 and a new reality show. Entirely produced in Brazil, “Your mother knows you” has just been recorded and is presented by actress Cláudia Raia.
The announcement was made by actress and presenter Fernanda Souza, who directs “Ilhados with a mother-in-law” – not so distant relatives, it must be said. Recorded inside São Paulo last month, the new production pits mothers and children face-to-face in a competition that will test their relationships for 1 million reais. There is still no release date, it is under the control of BoxFish and is co-produced by Farra.
— Let’s see which mothers really know their children and if their children are the same in front of them. Brazil has many assets to become a hub for format development (from reality TV shows) — said Elisa Chalfon.
Author Ray Tavares, who worked for Netflix as a screenwriter for the series “Back to 15,” announced “The 12 Secrets of Valentina.” Produced by Boutique Filmes and directed by Carol Durão, it is an adaptation of the book of the same name by the writer, today responsible for the script of the series.
After being betrayed by her boyfriend and discovering that the relationship didn’t work out due to an astrological incompatibility, Valentina decides to take revenge by meeting a man from each sign of the zodiac and turning the experience into a video.
— This is my first book that I adapted for audiovisual production. We kept what was most magical about the book and what my fans love so much. But as I wrote when I was 20, when I was young, we had to adapt to what it’s like to be young today, so as not to be too strange — Ray said.
Alongside Luiz Noronha, from the production company A Fábrica, screenwriter Cláudio Paiva (known for “A Grande Família” and “Tapas e Kisses”) spoke about the series “The Children Are Back”. Still with a working title, the creation tells the story of a middle-aged couple who decide to flee São Paulo and settle in Paraty. However, their new life together falls apart when their adult children have to come back to live with them. It’s a classic comedy premise, created from a dysfunctional family.
— We all have this type of fantasy, dream… This is the starting point (of the series) — Paiva shared.
Although they represent different genres, the feature films announced at the event have a common characteristic: both were born from domestic books.
“The Stranger in Bed” is a partnership between author and screenwriter Raphael Montes – who, in this case, also acts as creator and executive producer – and director Esmir Filho (“Homem com H”). Developed by Casa Montes and produced by A Fábrica, the film is an erotic thriller that follows a couple in crisis who decide to open up their relationship in an attempt to save it. To do this, they invite a third woman to bed, but things don’t go as planned.
— It’s a story full of betrayals and secrets, which will also be my next book. This is an idea I’ve had for many years. I wanted a story that would touch the audience, but about the current erotic thriller. I am an author who likes to be read and seen, I am a show-off (laughs). So, I always think about how I will keep the viewer hooked on the story and I understand that there is a way to reach a wide audience and with quality — said Montes.
The other new feature is the feature film “The Sorcerer’s Diary”. Directed by Vicente Amorim (“Senna”), the adaptation of Paulo Coelho’s book of the same name will be a road movie full of fantastical realism — and has even won the author’s “blessing,” as the director says in the video.
Among the other productions mentioned, some had already been announced. This is the case of the series “Rauls”, the platform’s new partnership with Kondzilla and LB Entretenimento, produced by Mana Filmes, whose recording began in November this year.
— Raul is São Paulo slang for digital embezzlers — said Kaique Alves, production director who took the stage alongside Konrad Dantas and Felipe Braga. — This is a current crime, but it has not yet been solved. It will be through the “broken” look in their head. The series will be pure entertainment, with reflections, but very fun, with romance, drama and a super young cast.
Netflix will also launch “Habeas Corpus,” its first Brazilian legal drama, produced by Café Royal and directed by Luiz Villaça and Flávia Lacerda, with Marjorie Estiano and Vladimir Brichta in the cast. There will also be another melodrama, directed by Mauro Mendonça Filho and produced in partnership with Amaia Produções and Conpiração. Still untitled, the series stars Marieta Severo, José de Abreu, Alice Wegmann and Nanda Costa.
In addition to original productions, the company also talked about film licensing. In 2025 alone, 55 Brazilian titles will be licensed. The premiere of “Bacurau” next Saturday (13) and “Le Dernier Bleu” at the beginning of the year have already been confirmed.
