A fireworks display capable of surprising even the most regular New Year’s Eve visitors to Copacabana beach, shows that celebrate Brazilian musical diversity, with Gilberto Gil and Ney Matogrosso, Belo and Alcione, João Gomes and Iza, among others, and an unprecedented presentation with 1,200 drones, to the sound of DJ Alok, are some of the new features that will make New Year’s Eve 2026 a unforgettable party for Rio de Janeiro and tourists.

Details of the celebration, both traditional and innovative, were presented during a press conference at the Copacabana Palace hotel, facing the beach where the main stage of the evening will be set up. 12 other points in the city will host more than 70 musical shows and there will also be fireworks at Praia do Flamengo and Vila da Penha. New Year’s Eve 2026 is presented by Petrobras, in a partnership that unites the country’s largest company with the world’s biggest New Year’s Eve party.
“For Petrobras, which has been sponsoring culture for more than 40 years, it is very significant to be present at an event of this magnitude, which attracts such a large audience, these are free shows, we are talking about access to culture, diversity in the most varied forms,” said Milton Bittencourt, head of cultural sponsorship at Petrobras.
Organizers expect between 2 and 3 million people to attend the party at Copacabana and 5 million to attend the 13 stages.
“On New Year’s Eve, it is very clear how culture also manifests itself in the economy. Crowded hotels, tourists, commerce, services, artists, production, a whole chain of activities. This is a return for the economy as a whole. We are very happy to be on New Year’s Eve again, this year as presenters. Petrobras is the largest company in the country, it strongly supports culture. And it is a very important event, which testifies to the company values. New Year’s Eve is part of the Festivals and Popular Fiestas Axis event of the Petrobras Cultural Program, being also an icon of our culture, it is a very special moment, in which we will be present in people’s lives,” highlighted the Petrobras director.
In addition to the partnership to organize the big New Year’s party, Petrobras will bring a new attraction to Copacabana beach this year: a space located on Rua Siqueira Campos will be open to the public for sports and leisure activities, from the second week of December to the beginning of January. And to celebrate 30 years of sponsorship of national cinema by the company, films sponsored by Petrobras will be screened.
The New Year 2026 presentation was hosted by two leaders of SRCOM, producer of the event, the Vice President of Creation, Abel Gomes, and the Director of Business and Special Projects, Nelson Adão, and by the President of Riotur, Bernardo Fellows.
“Every year we increase, improve, research. There is no New Year’s Eve like ours, in terms of audience size, fireworks, party,” celebrated Abel Gomes.
The big news of the fireworks display, which will last 12 minutes, will be the record number of 19 rafts spread along Copacabana beach, almost double the 10 points in previous years.
“The biggest New Year’s Eve in the world is back and we are sure that it will be an epic edition. In our carioca spirit, we know how to party very well and it is this emotion that we want to bring to the party. We will have the biggest music festival in Brazil, with more than 70 attractions, for all tastes,” said Nelson Adão.
“Petrobras is a great cultural platform and New Year’s Eve has the characteristic that is closely associated with Petrobras, which is the democratization of music. Taking João Gomes, taking Gilberto Gil, taking Alok amplifies what Petrobras has been doing for many years. We think this is a very important and powerful initiative in Brazilian culture,” added the SRCOM director.
Fireworks designer Marcelo Kokote gave some hints about this year’s news, although he left much of the surprise until midnight on the 31st:
“The time has come to turn the key, to make a new show. The same charge of explosives, but distributed in more points, with more movement. We are capable of delivering a language never seen before, something that will completely change the concept of what has been done so far.”
At 2 a.m. the largest drone show ever seen in the country will begin, in homage to Rio de Janeiro, with images of the city projected into the sky of Copacabana. The Beija Flor samba school ends the big party on the main stage. A turning point to go down in history.
