MADRID, December 8 (EUROPA PRESS) – The President of Nigeria, Bola Tinubu, confirmed this Monday the release of around a hundred schoolchildren kidnapped on November 21 in the west of the country.
A total of 303 students and 12 teachers were kidnapped that day after an attack by gunmen on St. Mary’s Catholic School in the remote town of Papiri. In the 24 hours following the attack, fifty students managed to escape and reunite with their families.
The hundred students were released this Sunday and were received this afternoon by the authorities, led by the governor of Niger State, Umar Bago, after having successfully passed the first medical examinations and psychological treatment.
“I have been informed of the safe return of about 100 students from the Catholic school in Niger State. I am happy for Governor Umar Bago and I commend our security agencies for their hard work to ensure the safe return of the students to their families,” the president announced on his X social media account.
