Pre-candidate for President of the Republic Flávio Bolsonaro (PL-RJ) defended São Paulo Governor Tarcísio de Freitas (Republicans) after the head of state received criticism from Bolsonaro activists for standing alongside President Lula and Minister Alexandre de Moraes of the Supreme Federal Court (STF) during an SBT News event on Friday (12/12).
“Tarcísio is in no way a traitor. He is a fundamental and vital element of this mechanism that we will articulate in all states to succeed in the national elections,” the parliamentarian told the Intelligence Ltda channel, Tuesday evening (16/12).
The senator’s brother, federal deputy Eduardo Bolsonaro (PP-SP), did not show the same understanding when he declared, at the beginning of November, that the governor of São Paulo is “the candidate of the system” or “the guy that Moraes wants”.
Flávio, however, agreed with Bolsonarista criticism that the SBT’s agenda with the executive and judicial authorities represented “a bad day for everyone”, but he considered that “it is not reasonable to call someone like Tarcísio, governor of the state with the highest GDP and the largest electoral college in the country, an enemy.”
The senator strengthened his defense by saying that Tarcísio would not have been comfortable applauding Moraes’ speech at the SBT event.
“Tarcísio is a person who is very attacked, sometimes unfairly. This situation at the SBT has obviously been a bad day for everyone. You see that when he applauds the speech of Alexandre de Moraes, he looks completely embarrassed by what is happening. So it is not an applause of agreement, it is something protocolary”, he estimated.
