
Madrid City Hall has reminded that there will be no waste collection service during Christmas Eve and the Christmas holidays. On Wednesday December 24 in the evening and Thursday December 25 in the morning and afternoon there will be no cleaning appliances, neither domestic, nor made of paper, cardboard, nor glass. The same thing will happen on New Year’s Eve, since the service will not be active on the night of December 31, nor on the morning and afternoon of January 1.
The municipality has assured that from the night of December 25, the cleaning system will be reinforced and throughout the 26th to eliminate the waste generated during the festivities. The administration has requested the cooperation of neighbors and homeowner communities so that they do not leave trash bags or bins on public roads during designated times and dates.
“Collection services for organic, plastic, metallic fractions, bricks and non-recyclable remains will be intensified in the days following the holidays, allowing rapid normalization of the service,” the town hall said in a press release.
During the Christmas period, they claim to have put in place a “vast extraordinary system” of waste collection, which began on the weekend of 2017. Black Friday and is currently operational.
Regarding the big celebrations that take place in the streets of Madrid at this time, the town hall also declared that it had all the means available for cleaning. During events such as San Silvestre Vallecana 2025, special services will be deployed for this reason. It will be the same with the Three Kings parade on January 6, 2026, which will have on its route “162 human personnel, including drivers and operators, and 67 mechanical means, including sweepers, washers and compactor trucks”.
