During his SBT News launch speech, this Friday the 12th, the Mayor of São Paulo, Ricardo Nunes (MDB), provoked President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) and asked for help to restore energy in the capital.
The mayor took advantage of the channel’s debut on Monday to raise the issue. “I hope that on Monday, Mr. President, we will no longer have the city of São Paulo without energy with Enel. We need help for this. It’s not easy,” he joked. Lula reacted by laughing.
The intervention request is live reinforcement. The mayor has already called on the federal government following the power outage that has hit Greater São Paulo since last Tuesday and which left 25% of the population without electricity. According to the dealer, as of Friday evening, 498,000 homes are still without service in the capital.
Earlier, Nunes told reporters: “We are experiencing chaos in 2023, 2024, 2025. And if this company continues, we will continue to have chaos. We have to convince the federal government that we have exceeded the limit of intervention in this company. And that it be replaced by a company that provides services to the population.”
The mayor also criticized the Minister of Mines and Energy, Alexandre Silveira, who plans to renew the contract with Enel, which expires in 2028.
“It is essential that we signal that there is no politicization in this issue. If the mayor wants to cry, if the governor of São Paulo wants to cry, there is no problem. If it is true, we will repeat it. If it is false, show what is wrong, give an order, have the courage to do it, bury it and it’s over. We are not going to ask anyone’s favor, but we are not going to politicize or leave doubt in the private sector that we so badly need to attract investment,” Silveira said at the event.
