
The Juzgado de Menores of Alicante imposed eight years of closed internment and five years of supervised release on the teenagers found guilty of planning and carrying out in November last year the murder of Cloe, the ex-girlfriend of one of them, aged 15, in Orihuela Costa (Alicante). The sentence, against which it is possible to appeal before the Alicante court, indicates that the crime occurred several days after the victim decided to break off her romantic relationship with one of the teenagers, then aged 17, according to information from the Superior Court of Justice of the Valencian Community. The penalty imposed is the heaviest in a case of gender violence with these characteristics, in accordance with the law that regulates the criminal liability of minors.
The crime took place on November 24, 2024, the day before 25-N, the international day to eliminate violence against women. According to the verdict, “three days after” Cloe decided to break up with her boyfriend, “the two accused approached the girl on a street” in the La Florida urbanization, Orihuela Costa, part of the municipality of Oriola bordering Torrevieja. There, around 8:30 p.m., “after attempting to asphyxiate him with a so-called killer maneuver,” the culprits “degollated” their victim with a knife. He was 16 and 17 years old when he committed the murder.
Chloe, aged 15, did not die in this act. “Malherida,” the judgment continues, “arrived at the house of a brother, located about 300 meters from the scene of the success, and he fainted in front of the door.” The victim’s family member was immediately transferred to the young woman at Torrevieja Hospital, “where she died a few minutes later, during her transfer to the hospital.” The investigation was carried out by the Women and Minors team (Emume) of the Alicante Civil Guard command. From the first moment, it was assumed that this was a case of gender-based violence.
