London, December 12 (EFE). – Andoni Iraolas Bournemouth, who finished second on Matchday 9, are experiencing their first major downturn of the season, going six consecutive games without a win in the Premier League, with a record of two draws and four defeats, which has seen the team drop to thirteenth place
The English team has continued its excellent start to the season, losing only to Liverpool in its first nine games, picking up five wins and three draws to take second place with 18 points, only behind Arsenal, who led with 22 points.
After this brilliant phase, however, there was a slowdown: six rounds without a win and three of them without points, so that the team is now only five points above relegation.
The season appeared to be complicated by the departure of three key players – Dean Huijsen to Real Madrid for 59 million euros, Milos Kerkez to Liverpool for around 47 million euros and Illia Zabarnyi to PSG for 63 million euros – plus the departure of Burkinabe striker Dango Ouattara for 42.8 million euros, which increased the club’s total income to around 238 million euros, compared to expenses of 138 million euros, which resulted in a net profit of almost 2.5 million euros 100 million.
With them and under the leadership of Iraola, the “Cherries” reached their point record with 56 points in the 2024-2025 season and finished ninth for the second time in their history, just nine points away from the places in the Conference League.
Despite the multiple defeats, from a sporting perspective, Bournemouth had the best start in the club’s history with 18 points in 9 games, a promising start that gave fans dreams of qualifying for European competition.
The team was supported by Ghanaian Antoine Semenyo, who was bought in the 2023 winter market and started with six goals and three assists, but was not involved in a single goal in seven games.
The Ghanaian, wanted by several European teams, is not having his best moment and at the same time the Brazilian Evanilson, another leading striker, has failed to take a step forward with a goal in the domestic tournament.
Bournemouth will look to break their poor momentum in a special setting, at Old Trafford, where they suffered a historic 3-0 defeat last season, with Semenyo scoring the final goal.
Despite the current downturn, Iraola remains a deeply loved figure by the club and its fans, who appreciate the competitive leap since his arrival and his ability to upgrade players and sign the best records in the club’s recent history. EFE
