PSG coach Luis Enrique highlighted Flamengo’s strength while screening the Intercontinental Cup decider. The final will take place on Wednesday (12/17), at 2 p.m. (Brasilia time). The Spanish coach praised the level of the red and black opponent. He therefore declared that he expects a balanced confrontation. Furthermore, he recalled that he had already watched the rival team compete in the Club World Cup in the middle of the year.
“It will be very difficult. They play very good football and have experience,” he said.
According to Luis Enrique, the difference between European and South American clubs has narrowed compared to the past. He compared the current format of the competition with the old Club World Cup and stressed that this time PSG will have a big challenge.
The reference to the past dates back to 2015, when Luis Enrique managed Barcelona, won the Champions League and beat River Plate 3-0 in the Club World Cup final. So, according to the coach’s assessment, the current scenario is very different, with greater technical balance between the finalists.
“We are going to play against one of the best teams in the world. It will be difficult, but it is motivation, because it is an opportunity for PSG.”
This Saturday, PSG beat Metz 3-2 in the French Championship. This match was the last engagement before the trip to Qatar. Flamengo secured a place in the final against PSG by beating Pyramids, also this Saturday.
After the match, the Parisian delegation returned to Paris. He spent the night in France before embarking this Sunday for Doha. The flight is expected to last approximately six hours.
