Otávio Mesquita spoke for the first time after the filing of the rape complaint filed by actress Juliana Oliveira. The accusation refers to an episode that occurred in 2016, during the recording of the show The Noite, in which Juliana claimed to have been the victim of sexual harassment. According to the report, Mesquita groped her private parts without her consent.
Commenting on the affair at the opening of the Operação Mesquita program, the presenter said that the situation was nothing more than an “innocent joke” and said that “there was no malice” in the attitude towards the comedian.

“I am here today to deal with an unpleasant and important issue in my life. As many people know, some time ago I was unfairly accused by the counselor who worked with Danilo Gentili, Juliana Oliveira, because of a joke I made almost ten years ago,” he began.
“A joke that could happen and that was arranged. Even back then, this type of joke, I repeat, was innocent. There was no malice. Everyone knows that I am irreverent, playful, I am good and I would never indulge in such harassment during the recording of a television show,” he added.

The file was definitively archived on November 12 by the São Paulo Public Prosecutor’s Office (MPSP), after the Attorney General’s Office rejected Juliana’s defense request to reopen the file. In his speech, Otávio Mesquita said he was relieved by the result.
“Unfortunately, it was understood that way by her, but today I am very happy and relieved. My image has been damaged, and you know that this type of accusation is always very heavy. I have never had a problem with the justice system in my entire life. It’s true: in 40 years of television, nothing like this has ever happened to me,” he added.
