In fact, the Cardinals’ helmsman announced the first reinforcement for next year, a Uruguayan player with experience in Mexico but with a disciplinary record that would cause problems throughout the season, even though the coach knows him very well.
Coach Pablo Repetto confirmed in an interview with Snail radio the arrival of Uruguayan Franco Fagúndez as Independiente Santa Fe’s first international signing for the 2025 edition of the Copa Libertadores. The player, a 25-year-old midfielder, comes from Nacional in Uruguay and was most recently part of Santos Laguna in Mexico, where he barely featured.
“Yes, I won’t go into the details, but everything is agreed. He’s Uruguayan, I gave him instructions.” Maybe the gift isn’t the best because he didn’t play“But as far as it is up to the task, it will be very important for the club,” said Repetto, confirming that the agreement has already been concluded.

The coach explained that his choice of Fagúndez was based both on personal knowledge of his abilities and on a clear strategy to strengthen Santa Fe’s attacking front: “In the youth teams he played as a striker, as a center forward. With us in Nacional he played behind the 9, in Santos Laguna behind the 9, and now the idea is that he plays behind the 9.”
Regarding the current situation of the reinforcement, Repetto recalled that it is in the Mexican team Fagúndez had little training last year and even played in the U21 team before leaving.. However, he is confident that he can contribute to the attack, be it as a midfielder or on the left wing, positions he has already played at Nacional. For the coaching staff, Fagúndez’s contribution can be crucial once he gets used to the group.

Regarding the new additions and departures in the squad, the coach addressed the policy towards foreign players: “There were two players that we spoke to that we wouldn’t count on them given the quota of foreigners, that we might need this quota in other positions and they won’t continue.”
“Today we have two, Olivera and Fagúndez, it could be four or two His priority is for Colombian footballers to make up the majority of the squad.to ensure that they are at the same level as the team and that foreign formations are only considered to strengthen certain positions.

Regarding international goals, Repetto has previously highlighted Snail radio the demand and dreams that participation in the Libertadores awakens under the seal of a club with history: “Win all the games. Then set yourself the goal of winning the cup, be it the greats of Colombia, Uruguay, Chile, we all dream and even more so when you have a history, but that dream grows or not with the performance of the team.” We have to go step by step and get more and more excited“.
The planning for the preparation of the season has already been decided: “We start on the 2nd (January). On the 15th we play one of the finals, then the championship, the Super League, it’s a tight schedule. We need the players who can adapt physically to the size, to the idea of the game. It’s a tight schedule, with little time. We have to make the best decisions because we have to win everything we can.”
