The death of Luis Scuriatti caused deep and varied regret, especially in the academic environment, where he played a prominent role in the Faculty of Economics of the National University of La Plata.
He was born on April 4, 1942 in the city of Buenos Aires. When he was two years old, his family moved to Mar del Plata, where he spent his childhood and youth. The son of Yolanda Fugazza and Luiggi Scuriatti – an Italian immigrant – he grew up with his older sister Noemí Esther Luisa.
At the age of 17, he decided to move to La Plata to pursue an accounting career and went on to earn a bachelor’s degree in economics. He returned to Mar del Plata every year to celebrate the end-of-year holidays and summer vacations with family and friends.
In 1973 he married Rosa Adriana Aquiles, a native of Bahía Blanca, whom he met in Mar del Plata. They created a family in which they had three children: María Paula, José Ignacio and Luis Emiliano, who grew up in Gonnet. He always taught his children the path of effort and justice, fundamental values of the family that grew with four grandchildren: Francisco, Ignacio, Josefina and Elena.
Among his hobbies, his passion for reading and traveling stands out.
He started at the Faculty of Economics as a research assistant and progressed through practically all ranks: associate professor, full professor, vice dean and dean’s office. His professional training received outstanding recognition in 2019 when the academic unit awarded him the award of Associate Professor in the honors category, a testament to his contribution to education and institutional development.
Since he entered economics, he has never left it. It represented a very important place in his life. There he met many of his lifelong friends who accompanied him for coffee, meals or outings until the last years of his life.
He also worked in the Department of Public Works and Services and was director of the Municipal Bank of La Plata.
He always liked football, a sport he played in his youth. He was a fan of Boca Juniors and Aldosivi.
