Palmeiras is negotiating the loan of right-back Gilberto to Athletico-PR as part of planning for the 2026 season. At 20 years old, the player is not part of the immediate plans of Abel Ferreira, who currently counts Khellven and Giay for the position, and the board believes that the best alternative is to give the athlete minutes at another Serie A club.
Trained in the youth categories of Verdão, Gilberto is perceived internally as one of the main promises of the position. In 2025, he was one of the highlights of the under-20s, with a strong offensive profile, distributing 13 assists and scoring three goals in 36 matches. His performances led him to train with the professional team at times during the season.
Despite the proximity of the main group, the full-back was not used by Abel Ferreira. He participated in four Brazilian Championship matches, but remained on the bench each time. As the start of the season approaches, Palmeiras understands that the lack of immediate space can hinder the athlete’s development.

Negotiations with Athletico-PR are ongoing and the São Paulo club’s idea is for Gilberto to play for professional team Furacão, gaining experience at a high level before returning better prepared to Allianz Parque. Other clubs have also investigated the player’s situation, but the destination Paraná appears to be one of the most advanced possibilities.
