Information from g1. LATAM said in a statement that smoke from the equipment “triggered safety protocols” and that passengers were removed via the boarding bridge (finger) and escape slide. All of them, according to the company, were assisted by employees trained in this type of situation.
The equipment, according to Latam, is owned by an outside company. Also in a statement, concessionaire GRU Airport, which operates the airport, said that “all security protocols were activated immediately, without any impact on the operation of the airport.”
“Once the incident was identified, the fire brigade and aviation firefighters were called and assisted in extinguishing the fire,” the memo said. The refueling of the aircraft was suspended for ten minutes, in accordance with safety rules.
The flight will depart from São Paulo, heading to Porto Alegre. The passengers exited the plane shortly after boarding. One passenger told g1 that flight attendants shouted at people to leave their belongings and leave the front “immediately.” According to Lucas Lima, there was no smoke or smell, so many passengers did not even understand why they had to leave.
Latam said 159 passengers disembarked at Porto Alegre in the early hours of Friday. The remaining ten customers have been allocated to other flights or will travel overland.
