The avalanche recorded this Monday on the west face of Tablato peak, near the thermal spa of Panticosa, cost the lives of three people. According to the Herald of Aragón, one of the deceased is Jorge García-Dihinx, pediatrician at the San Jorge Hospital in Huesca and a well-known personality both in the field of health and in mountaineering in the Aragonese Pyrenees.
García-Dihinx, a 55-year-old doctor from Zaragoza, was mountain skiing with a group when the avalanche occurred, triggered by the breakup of a layer of snow between 2,600 and 2,700 meters above sea level. The landslide dragged the climbers down the slope and caused the death of the pediatrician, his partner and another man whose identity has not yet been established. In addition, a woman was slightly injured and two other people were unhurt.
Jorge Azcón highlighted the victims’ knowledge of the mountains and the climate: “They were very dear people, experts not only in mountaineering, but also in meteorology,” he said. “The Aragonese mountain is in mourning, anyone who loses their life is a misfortune, but the knowledge, the experience he had is known in the valley, in the networks, by all those who love the Pyrenees, it is bad luck, zero risk does not exist, this makes us very responsible because even if you are a professional in the mountains and meteorology, you can have bad luck.”
Specialist in pediatric gastroenterology, nutrition and childhood obesity, Jorge García-Dihinx carried out his professional activity at the San Jorge Hospital in Huesca and was widely recognized for his role in disseminating issues of health, nutrition and healthy lifestyle habits. He has frequently participated in conferences, training activities and media collaborations.

The notification to 112 Aragón was received around 1 p.m., when the Mountain Rescue and Intervention Groups (GREIM) of Jaca and Panticosa, as well as the Air Unit of the Civil Guard based in Huesca, were activated.
